Supporting
the community
The Leelanau
REACH Board is an independent, and private non-profit organization.
REACH stands for "Resources for Economical and Accessible
Community Housing".
A non-profit
Housing Development Corporation that has been established to develop
and expand the affordable housing options in Leelanau County.
The Board of Director's mission is to develop single family homes,
townhouses, condos and rentals that young families can afford,
allowing them to live and work in the county in a safe and secure
environment. Our goal is to:
" Provide
high quality, affordable housing to low and moderate income individuals,
and to do so with integrity, dignity, and respect;
" Provide relevant supportive housing services to eligible
families in Leelanau County;
" To become a resource for families seeking affordable housing
in Leelanau County.
" Maintain a fiscally sound and responsible organization which
will continue to address the affordable housing issues in Leelanau
County for years to come.
It is with
these thoughts and efforts in mind, that the Leelanau REACH organization
hopes to assist those families seeking such, an opportunity to
obtain the home that they have long dreamed of, and that they
can call their own.
It is hoped
that the Leelanau REACH organization will be able to, within a
reasonable amount of time, provide a product that will address
the affordable housing need in Leelanau County. This will be accomplished
by identifying successful location(s) for affordable housing development
to take place on, and then by identifying a financing tool(s)
that will allow for the actual building of the affordable housing
to take place. If you would like to contribute by donating land,
time or money, please contact us at: 231-256-9821
Project
1
Leelanau REACH
has developed and sold its first house, without any government
funds. The home was built in 1973, and donated to Leelanau County
in April of 2005. The County granted the home to Leelanau REACH
for its first housing project.
With support
from Bob Biggs Construction and Northwestern Bank and Trust, REACH
was able to re-develop the home and sell it as an affordable home.
The 1728 sq.
ft. three bedroom, 1 1/2 bath home was completely re-developed
including a new two-car garage. Homebuyer Christopher Carlson
was very delighted to be able to buy an almost new
home for his family at an affordable price.
